Long time no see - Cin and Monte engagement shoot

I haven't updated in a looong time. I told Cindy and Monte that I'd shoot their engagement photos. Lighting was pretty simple - 580ex on an umbrella cross lit to the sun and a 420ez held on axis for fill. Here are a couple of my favorites from the shoot:http://www.blogger.com/post-create.g?blogID=2084984514175861455

These ones were with just a single strobe on an umbrella on camera right

Strobe on camera right with hand held strobe on axis

All Ambient

I had fun shooting these guys, but there were some awkward moments of silence. I have to work on engaging with the subjects more.

I got a new lens

I got a new lens... FUCK YEAH!

200mm F2.8L:

This lens is amazingly sharp. It's my first L lens and i swear, I will never buy another non-pro lens ever again.

Couple of test shots from walking around the neighbourhood:

I am VERY happy with my purchase. I'll be thoroughly testing the lens out throughout the week. See ya laterz!

Unexpected Sunshine

Saturday was looking like a pretty shitty day. Clouds, wind, rain, not a patch of blue sky in sight :(

I spent the day in a coffee shop organizing photos, talking on msn, and of course, drinking coffee... by myself. Then i saw it - a patch of blue sky! I talked to Jess and had confirmation of a nice day starting to brew!

I just happened to have my camera with me so we took Papi out to the dike for a walk.

And so, the photo shoot ensues...

Lighting setup was pretty simple and consisted of my 580ex on camera with a stofen. Flash was set on manual firing at either 1/4 or 1/8th power.
Shutter speed: 1/250
Aperture: f/16

Papi's quite a naughty dog. He Jumps up on tables, barks and strangers and pulls like mad on the leash. We spent some time showing him who the pack leader is - i think he's starting to get it.

Beginnings

So here it goes, my first post.

I'm sitting at The Boulevard on campus setting up my blog. Holy shit, I'm so unseasoned in this stuff now. I haven't blogged since the days of Xanga.

So i was getting my daily dose of Strobist and saw a bunch of DIY stuff in the archive. I decided to try out some of these projects and make my own light modifiers.

Here's what i made:
DIY Strip Light

DIY Beauty Dish

DIY Ring Flash

Check out my flickr to see more! Hopefully i'll get to actually use these soon. They look kinda ghetttto, but eh.. as long as they work, right?
